The ARPC plays a critical role in protecting Australia against the financial impacts of catastrophic events. We are seeking a Catastrophe Risk Analyst to support our actuarial and catastrophe modelling capability through high-quality analysis, modelling, and insight generation. In this role, you will work with catastrophe models, climate and geospatial datasets, and insurance data to help inform pricing, live event estimation, research activities and publications, and contribute directly to ARPC's strategic objectives.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Actuarial and working closely with the Manager Actuarial Catastrophe Modelling, the role supports ARPC's Actuarial Function by delivering specialist knowledge and analytics related to catastrophe risk; including supporting early event loss estimation, undertaking research on related climate science topics, and running and drawing insights from an array of catastrophe models. Additionally, the role will lead the ongoing development of catastrophe-related data-warehousing and related geospatial capabilities and analytics. This position offers the opportunity to influence pricing decisions and contribute to national resilience strategies.
Key responsibilities, include
* Prepare, validate, and analyse data to support internal catastrophe model development and application of external catastrophe models for cyclone and terrorism risk.
* Support early and real-time loss estimation for catastrophic events, including post-event analysis and reporting.
* Contribute to cyclone pool technical claims cost modelling using catastrophe model outputs and related analytics.
* Assist with catastrophe model governance activities and develop relationships with external catastrophe model vendors.
* Contribute to research on catastrophe risk, climate change impacts, and risk mitigation measures in collaboration with government and academic partners.
* Lead the ongoing development and maintenance of climate-related data assets and upskilling of geospatial capabilities across Actuarial and the broader organisation.
* Provide specialised analytical support to internal stakeholders across actuarial, underwriting, claims, finance, and other functions.

* Tertiary qualification in relevant field of studies such as Economics, Actuarial Studies, Science, Climate change, Weather systems, or Engineering -
