Jilbup Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants (SNEA) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
As an SNEA you should assist students in developing confidence and a sense of well-being in a variety of educational settings. Under teacher direction, you will assist in the delivery of planned education programs to aid students in reaching their full potential, through the development of their academic, social, emotional and physical skills. You should possess a calm, positive and professional manner, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. You will also provide feedback when required, on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress.
All SNEAs at Jilbup will rotate through our school, including working in Kindergarten and Pre-Primary as the classroom assistant. Experience in Multi-Lit programs such as InitiaLit, MacLit and MiniLit would be desirable.
Located in Hammond Park, Jilbup PS is a new school opening in 2024, catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school will include an administration block, early childhood teaching block, teaching blocks with general learning areas, inclusive education room and specialist rooms for art and science. They will also be equipped with a library, covered assembly area, music room, oval and hard courts.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
1. Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
2. Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
3. Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
4. Ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
5. Knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
6. Ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
