About The Role
Karnet Prison Farm is a minimum-security prison located 75km south of Perth. The prison handles only male offenders and functions as a pre-release centre with a focus on rehabilitation and re-integration in preparation for their return to the community. The prison's farm which covers an area of approximately four hundred hectares, comprises an abattoir, dairy, poultry and market garden for supply of meat, milk, eggs and vegetables for use by the state's prisons.
The
Chef Instructor
is Monday to Friday position which is responsible for ensuring appropriate menu plans/programs are within approved cyclic menu requirements and Departmental guidelines in conjunction with catering for seasonal, medical, religious and cultural requirements. It is also responsible for the supervision and reporting of funds allocated to the workshop, including tracking expenditure and issuing invoices for services or products provided, as required.
Other Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
* Responsible for the overall supervision, coordination, instruction and control of prisoners in all activities or duties they undertake within the industry or service area on a day to day basis.
* Undertake prisoner induction training on principles, practices, procedures and use of equipment within the industry or service area and registers on the Prisoner Safety Induction and Training form (COO2).
* Comply with reporting and regulatory requirements as per the Public Health Act 2016, the Food Act 2008, Food Regulations 2009 and Australian Dietary Guidelines to ensure compliance with the approved Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), and WHS requirements, procedures and any internal or external audit recommendations.
* Liaise with, and coordinate the use of, contractors and suppliers for the purposes of maintaining equipment and/or consumable products. Responsible for escorting contractors and suppliers for the workshop.
Eligibility
Qualifications
– Certificate III Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) will be accepted as the minimum approved equivalent.
Permanent positions
– To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
Special Conditions
* A current valid manual class "C" motor vehicle driving licence.
* A valid "Provide First Aid" (HLTAID011) accreditation (or equivalent eg Senior First Aid) received from an accredited training provider with a minimum of 12 months validity remaining.
