About the role:
As the newly created Strategic Communications Manager (SCM), reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Communications and Engagement, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the strategic communication and engagement requirements for a portfolio of priority areas. Your responsibilities are pivotal in ensuring that communications and engagement efforts are not only aligned but also strategically integrated across various channels
Key Responsibilities
* Develop a comprehensive understanding of assigned portfolio areas to identify risks, opportunities, and recommended communication approaches.
* Collaborate with stakeholders within the portfolio to define goals, target audiences, and develop communication plans, coordinating with the broader Corporate Affairs team for cohesive campaigns.
* Craft compelling narratives, messaging, and communication outputs tailored for various channels, audiences, and purposes.
* Provide strategic communication advice on issues, reputation management, and positioning, in collaboration with media and government relations teams as necessary.
* Lead strategies on engagement, consultation, social license, and stakeholder management.
* Stay informed on best practices in communications, engagement methods, and technology, providing recommendations and solutions informed by industry knowledge.
* Utilize data from various sources to inform strategy, evaluate outcomes, and continuously improve the strategic communications function.
* Actively contribute to enhancing the ways of working within the Corporate Affairs team.
Note: This is a fix term contract role until June 2026
Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role should be a skilled communications generalist with a minimum of 5+ years of experience as a senior marketing communications professional, demonstrating expertise in implementing omni-channel approaches. They must possess strong strategy skills, excellent written communication capabilities, and a proven track record of developing integrated marketing communication plans. Additionally, the candidate should exhibit proficiency in media and, ideally, political landscape knowledge. Autonomy, initiative, and the ability to act as a trustworthy adviser are essential traits for success in this position. Experience in account/portfolio management is required, along with certification in IAP2 community engagement. Furthermore, candidates with experience in developing communications for social license and behaviour change strategies will be highly regarded.
