Established in 2006, it has been providing a range of services to clients across Australia. The office and laboratory are located in Browns Plains, Queensland. Staff work in the lab, at the desk, and on site. Field work may involve travel within Australia and potentially overseas to industrial sites such as processing plants, mines, or rural terrain.Safe Radiation has a dose rate monitor calibration facility certified traceable to the Australian primary standard of radiation exposure. Our staff have delivered award‐winning presentations in professional conferences and published in international journals.Main Purpose The main reasons for hiring are: (i) to fill a gap created by a departed employee, and (ii) to meet the needs of expanding the scope of services in various aspects of radiation safety. We are likely to consider suitable team members for full‐time, part‐time and casual employment. The preferred choice is a permanent part‐time team member, working four days per week, and available for occasional travel away from Brisbane.Role A Technical Officer / Scientific Officer will work as an active member of a small team, undertaking a multi‐tasking role. Responsibilities include:Interacting with professionals in other organisations, including competitorsCommunicating with clients and service providersEngaging with other staff, including casual staff, in field and lab environmentsWorking independently in the lab and at client sites, sometimes soloCalibrating diverse types of dose rate metersPerforming minor repairs, often involving soldering componentsMaintaining lab and office computers and network‐based storageReading and uploading reports for clientsManaging and developing routine reporting templatesManaging SOPsUsing advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and sometimes CAD for graphing and graphicsLearning new software as it becomes necessaryConducting field work with due diligence of data recording, equipment handling and transportSearching for and ordering materials and equipment for field and lab useAttributesPlanning and organising– Plan own work to support company priorities; adjust to changes and propose realistic contingency plans; contribute to team results.Safe work practice– Adhere to safety instructions, including radiation safety.Communication– Provide concise written and verbal communication; listen to others; redirect enquiries; search information effectively.Knowledge sharing– Share knowledge with team members; learn from experience; respect conflict of interest and confidentiality.Technical credibility– Ensure work complies with standards and methods.Educational– Completed or nearly completing studies equivalent to a university degree in a relevant discipline (Physics, Engineering, etc.). Knowledge of ionising radiation safety desirable; interest in detection techniques considered.How to apply The position is expected to commence in early July 2024.
