DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

BCI’s Infrastructure & Renewable Resources (I&RR) team invests globally in infrastructure, forestry, and agriculture businesses that provide stable long-term results. T h e team is one of the top ten largest institutional infrastructure investor s globally, manag ing C $2 5 + billion in AUM through its offices in Victoria, BC and London, UK .

The I&RR team predominantly seeks direct investments in private companies – but also pursues complementary strategies including i nvestments in publicly listed companies and debt instruments. The team invests in a variety of capacities including as a sole sponsor, co-investor, and selectively through funds. In these capacities, the team seeks to take an active governance approach built on a foundation of trusted relationships with all stakeholders and a commitment to long-term value creation.


THE OPPORTUNITY

The Associate /Analyst will be a key member of the Asset Management team, contributing to the growth, preservation, and value realization of investment s within I&RR ’s portfolio. This involves taking an active role in ( 1 ) proactive engagement with portfolio compan ies to ensure sustained performance, (2) due diligence of prospective investments, and (3) collaborating within the team to identify and execut e on strategic initiatives across the portfolio .


WHAT YOU BRING

* Undergraduate university degree in Business, Finance, or a related field

* A dvanced graduate university degree or equivalent (e.g., MBA, CFA, CPA ) is an asset but not required

* Up to 5 years of experience within private equity, investment banking, management consulting, corporate M&A, investment management, or other suitable background

* A team player that thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment

* Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

* Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth analysis

* Demonstrates natural curiosity, an inquisitive mindset, and an eagerness to learn

* Understanding of private market investing and strong financial modeling skills

* Have an entrepreneurial spirit and strive to create positive impact (i.e., see a need, take on responsibility, and follow through )

* Strong organizational and planning skills to effectively balance multiple priorities and initiatives

* Exhibits a high level of integrity, professionalism, and excellent interpersonal skills


Other qualifications that would be beneficial but are not required :

* Experience in or knowledge of infrastructure, forestry, or agriculture investments

* International education and/or experience

* Additional language skills

(Candidates will be assessed at the Analyst or Associate level based on a combination of their educational and work experience as it fits with these qualifications)


WHAT YOU GET TO DO


Portfolio Company Engagement

* Evaluate and contribute to the development of business strategies, investment recommendations, and budgets, as well as addressing other issues confronting Board and management teams

* Support the preparation and tracking of portfolio company KPIs and valuations to facilitate pro-active asset management and ensure sustained long-term returns

* Evaluate strategic initiatives (e.g., bolt-on acquisitions; divestitures; expansion projects) and support their pursuit directly with management and through external advisors


Investment Due Diligence

* W ork within an integrated deal team to conduct due diligence on direct or fund investments

* Engage with internal and external stakeholders to lead technical, commercial, ESG and other pertinent workstreams

* Develop financial model s with key driver sensitivity analysis to evaluate investment opportunities

* Synthesize findings and investment recommendations in executive-level investment presentations


Strategic Initiatives

* Conduct general industry, company, and fund research to support origination activities

* Participate in industry/geography strategic reviews to support origination and portfolio initiatives

* Contribute to building an internal body of knowledge for recurring challenges/opportunities and evolving trends


WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Work from our downtown Victoria office.

As part of investing globally for our clients, this role may require occasional travel.


SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

Depending on the skill level and relevant experience the successful candidate will be hired at one of the following levels with the annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role.

* Analyst – CAD $ 94 ,000 to $ 115 ,000

* Associate – CAD $ 109 ,000 to $ 135 ,000

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise .
