About Byron Gym
BYRON GYM is a well established fitness facility in Byron Bay, Northern NSW. It has been operating since the 90s and is the largest gym in the area, part of a group of gyms in the Byron Shire. The facility provides full access, an extensive group fitness timetable and infra-red saunas. In the near future there will be full renovation of equipment, a new group fitness studio and recovery room.

The Opportunity
As Gym Assistant Manager your primary aim is to increase membership numbers across the business, maintain 100% commitment towards outstanding customer service, maintain excellent reach out with all social media platforms, drive member retention, manage staff and contractors, and ensure customer satisfaction. You will work closely with and take direction from the Club Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the club to ensure a high level of customer service, satisfaction, cleanliness and equipment maintenance.
- Focus on member retention and increasing member sales in the club to meet monthly sales targets.
- Demonstrate outstanding communication and leadership skills.
- Show professionalism, respect, courtesy and support.
- Build a great team culture and club environment promoting community and inclusiveness.
- Lead in the delivery of exceptional member experiences and timely resolutions.
- Recruitment, training and retention of staff members.
- Contribute to weekly managers meetings; organise and run monthly staff meetings to foster communication and team building.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of staff members.
- Oversee staff rostering to ensure adequate staff coverage during club operating hours and approve leave.
- Proficient knowledge of software systems including Clubware, Debit Success & Gym Sales to ensure internal communications and procedures are met.
- Oversee internal and external marketing to align with the gym group’s Social Media strategy.
- Statistical reporting and analysis of net membership movement.
- Ensure the gym environment maintains ongoing standards for cleanliness, maintenance and OH&S.;
- This is a permanent full-time position offering 37.5 hours per week, including evenings.
- Work with the Operations Manager for training and support.
Skills & Qualifications
- Certificate 3 in Fitness or willingness to obtain
- First Aid and CPR (or higher) or willingness to obtain
- Police/Working with Children check/Blue Card or willingness to obtain
- Experience working within the Fitness Industry
- Minimum 1-2 years of fitness industry experience
- Proven track record for reaching sales targets
- Knowledge and competency in gym software and ability to learn new systems
- Permanent residency status in Australia is required for this position
About You
- Leadership experience managing a team in a high-volume and fast-paced environment, ideally within the fitness industry
- A minimum of 6-12 months of team management experience in a high-volume and fast-paced environment is required
- Passionate about fitness and have a genuine care for your members and helping them achieve health and fitness goals
- Able to demonstrate proven sales and customer service experience with the ability to hit KPIs
- Understanding of customer retention strategies is highly regarded
- Exceptional verbal, written and time management skills
- People-focused with a priority on member relationships and building a positive gym community
- Positive attitude towards work, life and the gym setting
- Highly organised with strong organizational skills
- Experience in creating and promoting a positive fitness facility culture
- Experience in human resource practices
- Sound understanding of work health and safety requirements is desirable
- Reliable, proactive, punctual, professional and well-presented
