Agrifood Technology is a leading independent provider of analytical services in Australia, with laboratories located in Werribee and Derrimut (Victoria), Hemmant (Queensland), and Bibra Lake (Western Australia).
We are currently seeking a Microbiology Team Leader to manage and oversee daily microbiological testing operations in our Queensland laboratory.
This role involves leading a small team of microbiology analysts and requires hands-on expertise in food microbiology testing, calibration, environmental monitoring, and culture collection.
The Team Leader will ensure all microbiological processes comply with ISO ***** standards, while also focusing on team performance, development, and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and oversee microbiological testing
Ensure calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Review test results and issue the reports
Investigate deviations or out-of-spec findings
Lead, train, and supervise a small team of microbiologists
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and ensure work is completed on time and to a high standard
Provide ongoing coaching and training to develop team skills and competency
Ensure all laboratory activities meet regulatory standards (ISO *****)
Identify and resolve deviations, ensuring timely corrective actions (CAPA) are taken
Maintain audit readiness and support internal and external audits and inspections
Manage laboratory expenses to ensure cost-effective operations

About You
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology, or related field
Proven hands-on experience in food microbiology testing and laboratory processes
Experience in equipment calibration, environmental monitoring, and culture collection
Leadership or supervisory experience in a laboratory setting
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and laboratory quality systems
Strong technical expertise in microbiological testing
Leadership and people-management skills
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple tasks and ensure timely completion
Good communication and documentation skills
