Aboriginal Mental Health Peer Worker Position

This role focuses on delivering culturally appropriate support and compassionate care to individuals with mental health needs. As an Aboriginal Mental Health Peer Worker, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team supporting people with moderate to severe mental health issues.

The position requires knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community, as well as the ability to engage and involve communities when working from or liaising with emergency departments. You will work alongside other members of the team to contribute to care planning and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for consumers.

About The Role

This position is identified for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people due to its genuine occupational qualification. This is a Category A position that offers sustainable employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the public health sector.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take 4 hours per month to reconnect with their culture and maintain their spiritual wellbeing, while being paid for it. This ensures our service is considerate of the health and social emotional wellbeing of our mob working in a public sector.

Applicants should also possess skills in providing cultural knowledge and advice to non-Aboriginal colleagues and stakeholders about local cultural protocols and the importance of incorporating holistic social and emotional wellbeing care.

As an Aboriginal peer worker, you will be required to demonstrate your strength and passion in enhancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people engagement with Mental Health services by listening and learning from our communities lived experience.
