They are searching for a agile and solutions-oriented Principal Engineer to lead strategic network planning engagements amid Australia’s energy transition. Here, you’ll find no commercial managers or project managers imposing unrealistic deadlines—just a core group of exceptional engineers who are passionate about tackling challenging projects and delivering impactful solutions.

This is a unique opportunity for a technically brilliant and commercially savvy professional to drive initiatives with purpose, playing a pivotal role in shaping Australia’s energy future while contributing to the organisation’s continued success.

Reporting directly to the Department Manager, this role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to make informed decisions that influence both departmental and organisational outcomes.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

- Leading a variety of technical network planning engagements aligned with Australia’s energy transition.
- Overseeing modelling, analysis, and recommendations for high-voltage transmission system planning and investments.
- Aligning decisions with organisational strategies and ensuring practical, impactful outcomes.
- Managing contractual aspects of third-party service providers to guarantee compliance with engineering standards.
- Persuading and influencing stakeholders effectively with robust, data-backed insights.
- Acting as a trusted representative of company policies to external stakeholders.
- Reviewing and improving the accuracy of internal procedural documentation.
- Contributing to project scoping, defining objectives, and outlining requirements.
- Offering technical mentorship to team members, including junior engineers.
- Driving strategic growth and development within the Planning Department.
- Introducing innovative tools and technologies to optimise operations.
- Establishing and implementing procedures that support department and company objectives.
- Effectively coordinating and critically reviewing outputs from external partners.

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you will need:

- A degree in Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in network planning or a related domain.
- Advanced technical expertise in high-voltage transmission systems.
- A proven track record of project management and team leadership.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey complex ideas to stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation and consultation skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A sharp sense of commercial awareness to align solutions with organisational objectives.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and maintain strong relationships.

Day-to-Day

You can expect to:

- Lead technical discussions and provide strategic direction for network planning initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring projects support organisational goals.
- Perform in-depth modelling and analysis to facilitate high-voltage transmission planning.
- Review and refine internal procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, building their confidence and enhancing their expertise.
- Evaluate and adopt cutting-edge tools and technologies to improve operational output.
- Oversee the performance of third-party service providers and ensure adherence to contractual and engineering standards.
- Represent the consultancy in external meetings and high-level negotiations.

Benefits

They understand that impactful work stems from motivated and supported employees. Here’s what they offer:

- The chance to work on high-impact projects driving Australia’s energy future.
- A cooperative work environment where engineers lead the way in decision-making.
- Access to professional development and training opportunities.
