Position Description – Team Member Reserve Maintenance

Purpose
The Team Member Reserves Maintenance will be responsible for performing maintenance
and open space works.
The primary objective of this position is maintain Councils open space assets with the key
focus on delivering efficient and effective services to the community.
The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to maintain solid relationships
with internal and external stakeholders.
As an ongoing commitment to the organisation you will be responsible for delivering the
best service to our community and to improve residents’ quality of life; continuously, smartly
and efficiently in the scope of your daily work.
Key Deliverables
- Maintain the reserves to Council’s standards, including weed control, site clean ups,
planting, mulching and locating depth services as required.
- Operate minor plant and equipment to maintain Council’s reserves and surrounding
spaces.
- Provide input to the Open Spaces metrics programs and other operational programs.
- Deliver on key performance indicators as set out by the Field Supervisor Reserve
Maintenance.
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience to external clients and internal
departments.
Person Specification
Essential criteria
- Advanced communication skills both written and verbal.
- MR drivers licence
- Appropriate licences to operate plant and equipment used in maintenance
- Certificate III in Horticulture or willingness to undertake.
- Ability to be innovative, flexible and creative in determining practical solutions to
operational problems
- Ability to understand and apply Safe Work Procedures and established work
practices
- Intermediate computer literacy skills (desktop/tablet/smartphone)
- Ability to develop new technical skills and embrace new technology and techniques
- Sound organisational/time management skills
- Working knowledge of Horticultural plant application and maintenance relevant to
work area

- Sound knowledge of programmed activities and work practices relevant to the
horticulture and revegetation establishment maintenance.
- Knowledge of pest plant control horticultural practices
- Working knowledge of plant application and maintenance relevant to work area
- Ability to identify and control undesirable plants
- Knowledge of principles of customer service
- Ability to communicate with people at all levels clearly and effectively
- Initiative, positivity and self motivation
- Commitment to work as part of a team
Desirable criteria
- Chemcert.
- Work zone traffic management accreditation or willingness to undertake.
- Knowledge of work practices relevant to Conservation Land Management principles
- Sound knowledge of locating and working near underground and overhead services
- Knowledge of safe working practices application of herbicides and pesticides
- Ability to understand and apply Council policies and procedures
- Knowledge of Australian Standards and codes of practice
Standard conditions
- Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of
Marion)
- Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the
City of Marion)
- Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,
with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.
- Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations and
apply “Think Safe Live Well” philosophy.
- Embrace ethical and moral behavior and report any suspected instances of fraud
and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the
Code of Conduct.
