Staff Specialist
Department of General Medicine, Calvary Mater Newcastle, Fixed-Term Part-Time (20 hours per week).
Classification: Staff Specialist Level 1 (Level election is optional). Remuneration: $262,376 - $323,777 dependent on years of experience, plus superannuation, salary packaging.
About the Role
The Staff Specialist works within an inter-disciplinary team to ensure timely, appropriate care and effective discharge strategies. Duties include patient care, supervision and teaching, continuing medical education, research and administration.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide clinical services for inpatients, emergency presentations and outpatients.
* Participate in after-hours services and provide consultative services to colleagues.
* Support bed allocation, transfer of care and patient flow according to hospital requirements.
* Provide clinical leadership to junior colleagues, ensuring high standards of patient care and evidence-based practice.
* Develop undergraduate teaching programs in liaison with the University of Newcastle and other learned bodies.
What you bring
* A primary medical degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
* Understanding of the principles of clinical governance to promote quality and safety in health care.
* Qualification(s) in General and Acute Care Medicine, and a commitment to rural outreach programs.
* Commitment to undergraduate and post‑graduate teaching in medicine, nursing and allied health and willingness to participate in clinical research.
* Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or other specialist recognition as provided for the NSW (Non‑Declared) AHO Staff Specialist Agreement or the Health Insurance Act.
The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an affiliated health organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area.
