Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Database Engineer to join our team at Leidos, where we develop and support IT systems for our Federal Government customers. Our projects span various software engineering disciplines, including enterprise systems, web applications, cybersecurity, geospatial systems, and real-time signal processing.
About the Role
* As a Database Engineer, you will play a critical role in managing defence databases' security, performance, and compliance, ensuring they are both efficient and aligned with stringent security standards.
* You will work within an ITIL framework for all work-related activities, including change, incident, and problem management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Database Design and Implementation: Installing, creating, configuring, upgrading, and monitoring databases to ensure optimum performance.
2. Performance Monitoring and Optimisation: Regularly monitoring database performance and optimising queries for efficient data retrieval and storage.
3. Database Security: Implementing and managing security measures to protect sensitive defence data from unauthorised access and breaches, including configuring firewalls, encryption, and access controls.
4. Support for Application Teams: Providing support for database-related incidents.
5. ITIL Framework: Working within an ITIL framework for all activities, including change, incident, and problem management.
Requirements
* Coupled with your education and practical experience, you will demonstrate a proactive approach, with the ability to understand the business, identify issues, and develop relationships to achieve the company's objectives.
* You will have proven experience administering, configuring, and managing large-scale database environments.
* Experience working with Microsoft Windows Server is required.
* Experience in High Availability and Disaster Recovery scenarios is highly desirable.
* Experience managing backup and restoration processes is essential.
* Relevant certifications or professional memberships relating to PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL, or Oracle Database are desirable.
* Australian Citizenship is mandatory, and you must hold an active NV-1 Security Clearance with the ability to obtain an NV-2.
Working Arrangements
* This is a full-time position based in Canberra or Melbourne, requiring 100% on-site attendance.
* You will be part of a collaborative team that works closely with the broader Leidos (and customer) Technical Capability Teams.
