About the Role
This position involves working in conjunction with a clinical team to provide support to family members or other carers of consumers. Carers and significant others often provide the main safety net for individuals dealing with complex mental health issues.
The goal is to minimize the impact of these issues on carers and support their engagement with services, ultimately enhancing the process of recovery for consumers experiencing serious suicidal ideation.
As a Carer Peer Worker, you will draw from your own lived experience to offer support, either face-to-face or over the telephone, to families, carers, and supporters of consumers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supporting carers and family members of consumers
* Maintaining relationships with carers and consumers
* Providing information and resources to carers and consumers
Requirements:
- A personal lived experience of caring for a family member or someone with mental health challenges
- Formal qualifications are not mandatory, but may be helpful (Certificate IV in Peer Work, Cert IV in Mental Health, Intentional Peer Support training)
- Experience working in a peer support role
- Experience of the public or private mental health system
- Experience facilitating family/carer support groups
- Australian working rights and current influenza vaccination
- Willingness to complete a police check
