Please note that as this position is multi-classed as either an OPS4 or OPS3, the classification will be determined by qualifications and experience.

Join Our Team as an Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Care (AMIC) Trainee – Deliver Culturally Safe Care That Makes a Real Difference

Are you passionate about improving birth outcomes for Aboriginal women, babies, and their families through culturally appropriate care? We're seeking a dedicated AMIC Trainee to join a supportive primary health care team, delivering antenatal, birthing, and postnatal services within a continuity of care framework.

About the Role:

As an AMIC Trainee, you will work alongside midwives, doctors, and Aboriginal Health Workers to enhance access to maternity care services for Aboriginal families. Your contributions will include assisting families with referrals, linking them to community supports, and supporting their psycho-social wellbeing through culturally safe, evidence-based practices.

You will receive daily supervision, support, and ongoing clinical training from experienced midwives, AMIC Practitioners, and medical officers. In turn, you will help develop knowledge and skills around cultural traditions and practices, providing advice and limited clinical care under delegated authority. Mutual respect and collaboration are foundational to this role.

Importantly, you will serve as a vital connection between Aboriginal families and the RMCLHN Aboriginal Health Team in Berri, as well as Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). Working closely with a multidisciplinary team—including Clinical Midwives, Nurses, GPs, and Allied Health professionals—you will help ensure continuous health and wellbeing support for families during and after pregnancy.

What We're Looking For:

OPS4

* Currently holds a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice (HLT40213)
* Able to undertake the Maternal and Infant Care Skill Set – Clinical (HLTSS00031) under the Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (HLT50213)

OPS3

* An unqualified trainee is employed at an OPS3 level and is required to complete a certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice and Is also required to undertake the Maternal and Infant Care Skill Set – Clinical (HLTSS00031) under the Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (HLT50213) as part of this role.
