The Role
As the Assistant Director of Governance within the Joint Operations Command (JOC) Group, you will lead and shape the Governance, Assurance, Performance and Risk functions essential to supporting the delivery of Joint Operations Command Group outcomes. In this role, you will drive the uplift of governance maturity across HQJOC—the Australian Defence Force’s operational-level headquarters responsible for the command and control of ADF operations and exercises.
You will lead a team responsible for developing, coordinating and embedding governance frameworks and mechanisms across the Group, with a particular focus on enterprise performance reporting, assurance activities, risk management, and secretariat support to key governance committees. You will be required to brief senior leaders at both the operational and strategic levels and provide high quality governance advice that informs decision making across Defence.
In this role, you will:
* Demonstrate in depth knowledge of governance principles, legislative frameworks, government decision-making processes, and Defence mission and policy requirements.
* Exercise independence, sound judgement and expert advisory capability to support senior JOC leaders in governance, risk, assurance and performance matters.
* Lead complex governance problem solving, including coordinating high stakes projects and issues with strategic, operational or political implications.
* Lead, coach and manage a high performing team responsible for governance frameworks, committee secretariat functions, risk processes, assurance planning and enterprise performance reporting.
* Oversee the quality and accuracy of governance products, including performance reports, assurance activities, risk artefacts, briefing material and committee papers.
* Manage key stakeholder relationships across Defence, identifying expectations, coordinating input, and communicating governance methodologies and practices to enable consistent Group-wide implementation.
About our Team
The Directorate of Group Governance and Finance is responsible for governance, risk, assurance and performance oversight across the JOC Group. Located within the Command Support Branch, our APS and contractor workforce collaborates closely with military personnel in a tri service environment. The Directorate delivers governance products used enterprise wide to inform policy development, performance oversight and operational readiness.

* Have experience preparing senior level briefing material and managing committee and secretariat functions.
* Communicate clearly and confidently with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
* Work independently with a high degree of professional autonomy.
