Position Overview

The Complex SIL Key Worker role is responsible for providing consistent, proactive, and person-centred support to participants with complex support needs within Supported Independent Living (SIL) environments.

This position works closely with the Complex SIL Team Leader to assist in stabilising participants, implementing support strategies, maintaining safe and structured home environments, and supporting positive participant outcomes.

The role is designed to provide consistency across participant supports and may include a combination of day shifts and overnight supports, ideally across 2–3 day shifts and 2–3 night shifts per week depending on operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Participant Support

* Deliver high-quality person-centred supports in line with participant care plans, behaviour support plans, and risk management strategies.

* Support participants with complex behaviours, psychosocial disabilities, mental health presentations, or high support needs.

* Build positive rapport and therapeutic relationships with participants.

* Promote independence, routine, emotional regulation, community participation, and skill development.

* Support participants with appointments, medication routines, personal care, meal preparation, and daily living tasks where required.

Operational & House Support

* Assist with maintaining safe, structured, and well-functioning SIL environments.

* Support implementation of house routines, communication systems, and participant-specific strategies.

* Assist with proactive identification and escalation of risks, incidents, environmental concerns, or participant changes.

* Ensure accurate completion of shift notes, charts, handovers, incident reports, and documentation requirements.

* Monitor participant presentation, wellbeing, and behavioural changes and escalate concerns appropriately.

Behaviour Support & Risk Management

* Follow Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), restrictive practice requirements, and approved control measures.

* Implement proactive support strategies to reduce escalation and maintain participant stability.

* Assist with identifying effective environmental and operational control measures.

* Support consistent approaches across staff teams to improve participant outcomes.

* Escalate concerns regarding increased risks, sleep disturbances, staffing concerns, or support model suitability.

Team Collaboration

* Work collaboratively with the Complex SIL Team Leader.

* Assist with training and supporting new staff within complex homes.

* Participate in team meetings, handovers, supervision, and training sessions as required.

* Provide clear and professional communication across all shifts and stakeholders.

Shift Expectations

This role may include a combination of:

* Day shifts

* Afternoon shifts

* Overnight sleepovers or active nights

The preferred structure for this role is:

* 2–3 day shifts per week

* Combined with 2–3 overnight shifts per week

Flexibility may be required based on participant and operational needs.

Essential Requirements

* Experience supporting participants within SIL or complex disability environments.

* Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.

* Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration.

* Current First Aid & CPR Certificate.

* Current Driver Licence.

* Strong understanding of person-centred and trauma-informed support approaches.

* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

Desirable

* Experience working with participants with complex behaviours or psychosocial disabilities.

* Understanding of Behaviour Support Plans and restrictive practice frameworks.

* Medication competency and/or high-intensity support experience.

* Experience within Supported Independent Living environments.
