Position Title: Vegetation Project Officer
Employment Status: Part time (0.6 FTE negotiable)
Salary: $80,000 to $90,000 per annum (pro rata, based on experience) + 12% superannuation + salary packaging via Simply Green.

Landcare NT is the peak body representing, supporting and strengthening the community Landcare movement in the Northern Territory (NT). Landcare NT’s vision is for vibrant and resilient communities connected with and caring for nature.
We collaborate with 30 Landcare groups (approx. 1,200 volunteers), community organisations and government stakeholders to strengthen community-led conservation and stewardship to maintain and improve the health of natural environments and working landscapes across the NT.
Landcare NT advocates for Landcare interests at local, Territory and national levels, and is a founding member of the National Landcare Network.

ROLE OBJECTIVE
Landcare NT is seeking a practical, enthusiastic and community-minded Vegetation Project Officer to work with community landcare to deliver vegetation projects under the Darwin Harbour Catchment Waterways (DHCW) Project.
This hands-on role will lead vegetation projects from planning through to delivery ensuring sites become resilient and self-sustaining.
You will design, coordinate and deliver invasive species management, site planning and preparation, native plant selection, community planting, and ongoing maintenance, monitoring and evaluation activities.
Working closely with our multi-disciplinary team, community groups and partners, you will help transform weed-infested areas into thriving native habitat whilst fostering community-led conservation and stewardship.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management
* Plan and stage multiple vegetation projects across the DHCW Project, and coordinate delivery of on-ground works to ensure weed control, revegetation and follow-up activities are completed safely, to agreed standards and within timelines.
* Assess sites and determine appropriate site preparation, regeneration and planting approaches, and maintenance that maximise survival and resilience.
* Liaise with weed managers to develop weed/threat management plans.
* Manage resources and procurement, including nursery supply (species lists, quantities lead times) required materials and equipment.
* Provide practical guidance and advice to build the capacity and confidence of community groups and partners to undertake successful vegetation projects.
* Support ongoing weed follow-up and plant establishment over 12–24 months.
* Establish simple monitoring and reporting systems (e.g. photo monitoring points, iNaturalist and vegetation condition checks) and use results to adapt methods.
* Develop and publish a Revegetation Guide for community landcare and the local community.
* Assist with vegetation survey initiatives under the DHCW Project.
* Liaise with partners to consolidate vegetation maps through the use of GIS/mapping software.
Engagement
* Work in close collaboration with Landcare NT team, community groups and partners deliver vegetation projects and strengthen participation and stewardship beyond the project.
* Facilitate volunteer events, working bees, planting days, including briefing participants, allocating tasks and ensuring safe, effective on-ground delivery.
* Contribute to community awareness and educational activities that highlight the value of healthy habitats/waterways and encourage involvement environmental stewardship.
* Represent Landcare NT at relevant networks, events and community forums.
Operational Support
* Maintain accurate records and reports for funding and compliance purposes.
* Uphold risk management practices and environmental sustainability standards in daily operations.
* Contribute to organisational planning and team meetings
* Assist delivery of other Landcare NT programs and community engagement activities as required.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential skills & knowledge
* Proven knowledge of conservation principles, ecological restoration and sustainable land and water management practices.
* Demonstrated experience planning and delivering on-ground sustainable land and water management projects within timeframe and budget.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including multi-disciplinary team, community groups and project partners to achieve project outcomes.
* Strong project management skills, including planning, monitoring and evaluation.
* Experience facilitating volunteer engagement and community capacity building activities.
* High level of self-motivation with strong organisational, prioritisation and time management skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Competent in using Microsoft 365 Suite and communication platforms and experience with GIS mapping software.
Desirable skills & knowledge
* Experience working with Landcare, environmental NGO or community-based conservation.
* Knowledge of Darwin region native species and priority weeds.
* Chemical handling certification (ACDC) or other field qualifications.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Tertiary qualification in environmental science, natural resource management or related field, and / or equivalent experience.
* Current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card), National Police Check, or willing to obtain.
* First Aid certification or willing to obtain.
* Current Drivers License and access to private vehicle for travel.
