Make a tangible impact in Agricultural Insurance Strategy. Lead end-to-end pricing activities with high autonomy.
About the Organisation
Achmea Australia is dedicated to keeping farmers farming. As a specialist agricultural insurer, we work closely with the farming community to protect their livelihoods. Sitting within the Agricultural Strategy function, this role is pivotal in ensuring our pricing remains competitive, sustainable, and fair. You will be joining a team where your technical expertise directly influences decision-making at the executive level.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Pricing Specialist to take ownership of end-to-end pricing activities. Reporting to the Senior Pricing Manager, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy, blending deep technical analysis with commercial strategy.
This is not just a back-room modelling role. You will be a key voice in the business, translating complex data into clear insights for stakeholders ranging from Underwriting and Claims to Executive leadership. You will also have the unique opportunity to liaise with the global Achmea international pricing community, with potential opportunities for international travel.
Key Responsibilities
You will manage regular pricing reviews and drive technical excellence across our portfolio. Your core focus areas will include:
* End-to-End Pricing Management: overseeing portfolio profitability, incorporating technical modelling learnings, and accounting for claims inflation and regulatory changes.
* Technical Modelling: Developing, maintaining, and refining technical models across relevant lines of business, ensuring alignment with Group protocols.
* Commercial Impact: Analysing and applying commercial adjustments to optimise conversion and retention rates.
* Strategic Insight: Monitoring the competitive landscape and external factors (such as regulatory changes like the Cyclone Reinsurance Pool, and macroeconomic trends) to inform pricing strategy.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Presenting high-quality reporting and analysis to internal stakeholders and the Executive team.
* Data & Innovation: Creating data sets to support pricing initiatives, monitor outcomes, and assisting in the design of new pricing algorithms.
About You
You are a decisive and result-oriented professional who can see the bigger picture behind the data. You possess the ability to work autonomously while maintaining strong relationships across the business.
To be successful
To be successful, you will need:
* Experience: Minimum of 5 years in General Insurance pricing (BAU or transformation). Experience with Domestic Home, Fire, ISR, Commercial Motor, or Liability classes is highly preferred.
* Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a similar quantitative field.
* Technical Stack: Strong proficiency in Excel and general insurance modelling tools (e.g., Emblem, Radar, Earnix). Strong experience using R and/or Python is essential.
* Analytical Mindset: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to spot trends, understand data limitations, and devise strategies to improve performance.
* Communication Skills: The ability to articulate complex analytical results in a professional, easy-to-understand manner to non-technical stakeholders.
Why Join Us?
* Five weeks annual leave + additional volunteer leave
* ANZIIF qualifications and RG146 compliance (or a commitment to obtaining them)
* Life insurance and salary continuance cover
* Study support and professional development opportunities.
* A career with purpose, autonomy, and the chance to make a real difference.
* If you are ready to combine your passion for rural communities with a rewarding career, we would love to hear from you. Together, we can help secure the future of Australian farming.
