Key Responsibilities
The reading together volunteer will actively engage with identified vulnerable primary school children from the local community to help improve their literacy skills through reading sessions.
The role will develop positive and constructive relationships to encourage improvement of the childrens' reading, comprehension, vocabulary and oral language skills.
Qualifications and Skills
* A love of reading, and a desire to share this with the children you read alongside.
Background Check Requirements
* Current Working with Children Check/Working with Vulnerable People Check
Time Required & Commitment
Minimum of 1 – 11⁄2 hours a week during school hours, supporting 3–4 children per session (as agreed with program coordinator and school contact person).
Training Requirements
* Category C training: Foundational training including an introduction to The Salvation Army, code of conduct training, work-safe and child-safe practices.
* Advanced Safeguarding training.
