MOHS Laboratory Scientist / Technician
Adelaide Surgicentre (ASC) – Casual Position (Wednesday & Friday)
Adelaide Surgicentre is seeking an experienced candidate with strong skills in Cryotomy and Histology laboratory experience. The successful applicant will be trained under the supervision of the Mohs Senior Scientist and will embed, cut, and stain surgical Mohs specimens in accordance with the ASC Mohs Standard Operating Procedures.

This role is ideal for a candidate with experience in histology, tissue-staining procedures and cryotomy, who thrives in a fast-paced surgical setting and takes pride in accuracy, safety, and high clinical standards.

About the Role
The Mohs Scientist / Technician is responsible for the preparation and processing of frozen tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation by the Mohs Specialist. The role also includes maintaining quality controls, managing equipment, and ensuring laboratory compliance with NATA and other regulatory requirements.
Working closely with the Nurse Manager and Medical Directors, you will uphold ASC's professional standards and commitment to exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Duties
* Prepare frozen tissue sections according to SOP guidelines.
* Perform H&E tissue staining for microscopic examination.
* Maintain accurate patient records for Mohs and MSE surgery.
* Prepare reagents and maintain the cryostat and automatic stainer.
* File and archive slides in a systematic and accessible manner.
* Dispose of tissue in accordance with EPA regulations.
* Order, maintain and monitor laboratory supplies and stock.
Central Sterile Department (CSD) & Support Tasks
* Package and prepare equipment for offsite sterilisation per the procedure manual.
* Clean, check and restock theatres daily/weekly/monthly.
* Manage clinical waste and ensure treatment rooms are stocked and maintained.
* Check, unpack and store sterilised equipment and incoming stock.
* Undertake laundry folding and maintain related stock records.
Quality, Safety & Emergency Responsibilities
* Participate in action research, policy development and quality improvement activities.
* Uphold WHS standards and report/rectify unsafe conditions.
* Serve as Emergency Officer: support staff/patient movement during emergencies, update the Emergency Procedure Manual, and deliver emergency procedure briefings.
* Contribute to accreditation activities, clinical indicators and ongoing professional development.
