Overview
We are seeking a substantive Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine to join the department at Ipswich Hospital, part of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT). This post has been developed to expand the permanent workforce. We are a strong and supportive department seeking a long‑term colleague who can bring their skills and attributes.
Gold Welcome Package
Gold Welcome Package includes a relocation package of £7,000, a £20,000 lump sum, and 1.5 SPA time for the first 24 months as recognition for joining ESNEFT.
Relocation, On-call, and Job Plan
The successful candidate will normally be required to reside within 10 miles by road of the main hospital base or within 30 minutes travel time for non‑resident on‑call duties to attend urgent and emergency cases. Relocation expenses are available. Additional roles may be offered subject to mutual agreement and may require onsite non‑clinical work, remunerated through APA within the job plan. If appropriate, the appointee may be named as an anaesthetic trainee Educational Supervisor. Pre‑existing consultant level NHS responsibilities can be discussed and accommodated.
Private Practice
If the successful candidate wishes to undertake private practice, they must offer the Trust an 11th PA prior to undertaking such arrangements (as per Ts and Cs).

Job Plan and Timetable
All consultants have responsibility for patient care and contributing to an effective service. The proposed timetable is indicative and negotiable after appointment. The appointed colleague will review their job plan after 3 months with the clinical director/lead and annually. Proposed job plans: Clinical sessions 8.5 PA DCC (including on call and clinical admin); 1.5 SPA; Total 10 PA. A tentative job plan can be provided on request.
