**How will I help?**
We have an exciting opportunity to lead the independent validation team that provides oversight, insight, and control in relation to markets models.
This team covers front office valuation, traded and non-traded market risk, XVA, counterparty credit risk and investment management models.
The role will give you the opportunity to partner closely with Heads of Risk and with frontline staff in Westpac's Financial Markets and Treasury teams.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing the team responsible for independently validating markets models.
- Ensuring all independent validation is delivered to a high quality, and within the times frames set by the business and Westpac policy.
- Make certain that all validation outcomes are effectively communicated to model owners and the approver.
- Establish healthy working relationships with Treasury, Financial Markets, Risk, Finance, internal and external audit.
- Representing the Head of Model Risk at:
- Revaluation Committee
- Oversight Forums
- Project Advisory Groups
- Overseeing Model Risk attendance at other forums, including new product committees and markets Model Clubs.
- Contributing to policy and reporting as it relates to markets models.
- Fostering a culture of learning, with a relentless focus on continuous improvement within the team.
- Delivering process improvements, including automation in relation to validation workflows.
- Leading, coach and provide technical support to a team of quantitative analysts with a clear focus on building bench strength

**What do I need?**
An experienced Leader and Coach within a markets quant team, which has included managing a broad scope of responsibilities with a focus on execution and continuous improvement. You will be an excellent communicator who has been able to build effective business relationship whilst being able to manage tight deadlines.
An analytical mind with the ability to anticipate the unforeseen and be able to discuss complex information and relay in a simplified format to a variety of stakeholders quickly and efficiently will set you up for success within the role.
You will also be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of regulatory requirements (APS 111, 116, 117, CPS 226 and AASB 13). As well as display fluency in programming (R, Python, Julia) and associated analytics tools (Docker, Git, Continuous Integration techniques, analytic notebooks such as Jupyter and RMarkdown) are important.
A strong educational background in financial mathematics / quant discipline or a related discipline is required
