The Royal Hotel Kojonup, est 1887 is a landmark Albany Highway venue. New owners are seeking a capable and community‐minded Manager to lead its next chapter.
This is a hands‐on role in a traditional country hotel, focused on strong food and beverage delivery and active bottle shop. Future accommodation and guest services expansion are possible.
About the Role
You will oversee all aspects of the hotel's operations, ensuring a high‐quality experience for locals and travellers, while preparing the business for growth.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
* Leadership and Team Culture
* Recruit, train, and lead a small hospitality team.
* Build a positive workplace culture.
* Lead from the front in all the pub's operations.
* Manage efficiently rosters aligned with business demand.
* Operations Management
* Oversee and work in the daily operations across bar, dining, takeaway, and bottle shop.
* Maintain high standards of presentation and cleanliness.
* Ensure coordination between kitchen and front of house.
* Customer Experience
* Maintain a welcoming and consistent customer experience.
* Build relationships with locals and travellers.
* Manage feedback and resolve issues effectively.
* Financial and Commercial Performance
* Manage budgets, costs, and margins.
* Monitor performance across food, beverage, and retail.
* Control wages in line with revenue.
* Drive revenue through events and promotions.
* Stock and Retail Management
* Manage ordering, pricing, and merchandising in the hotel and bottle shop.
* Conduct stocktakes and control wastage.
* Maintain supplier relationships.
* Compliance and Regulatory Management
* Ensure compliance with liquor licensing laws and RSA requirements.
* Maintain food safety and workplace health standards.
* Act as the key contact with local authorities including Shire, Health Department, and Police.
* Manage incidents, reporting, and compliance processes.
* Maintain guidance with and for directors via regular consultation, reporting and meetings.
* Future Growth and Development
* Assist in the smooth opening and ongoing management of the bottle shop.
* Assist in the further operation of the Beer Garden.
* Community Engagement
* Act as a positive presence in the local community.
* Support local events and initiatives.
* Strengthen the venue's role as a community hub.
About You
* Proven experience in a similar role, with good POS system knowledge.
* Minimum 1-2 years of pub or hotel management experience required.
* Intermediate level POS system knowledge and operational capability required.
* Strong operational and leadership capability.
* Good understanding of compliance requirements.
* Essential knowledge of liquor licensing requirements and regulations.
* Commercially aware and hands‐on.
* Able to work independently in a regional setting.
* Current RSA / Approved Managers required.
What's on Offer
* Salary from $85,000 to $115,000 negotiable for a suitable candidate.
