Position Purpose
* This is a casual role for Port Macquarie Airport. The Aviation Screening Officer's (ASO) role performs duties relevant to the security of persons and property at the airport as defined by the contract with Macquarie Airport Corporation Limited, Qantas, (Macquarie Airport) and Individual Airlines in accordance with the appropriate legislation. The Aviation Security division encompasses the International and Domestic Terminals at Macquarie Airport and special off-site contracts where screening services are required. Employees are expected to apply the highest levels of professionalism through our 'Security with Service and Integrity' model whilst operating within a service orientated work environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Control the flow of people and goods through the screening point
* Greet customers and communicate effectively
* Instruct passengers to place hand luggage and metallic items onto the conveyor belt
* Operate x-ray equipment and assess items as: (a) safe, (b) possible threat, or (c) obvious threat
* Alert bag search officers if a physical search is required
* Maintain full concentration during screening rotations (20-minute intervals, no conversation)
* Perform hand-held metal detector searches and request inspection of items (e.g. pockets)
* Conduct Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) on a random, continuous basis
* Report positive test results or unresolved alarms to the Team Leader
* Conduct pat-down (frisk) searches when required, with passenger consent
* Ensure only cleared individuals pass through the Walk-Through Metal Detector (WTMD)
* Maintain control of items being searched
* Advise passengers which area of the body is alarming, if possible, and request item removal
* Perform access control duties, including guarding exit/entry points and loading docks
* Conduct ad-hoc airline security work and aircraft guarding
* Perform checked baggage inspections at check-in counters and CBS (Checked Baggage Screening) monitoring
* Operate control room CCTV systems
* Conduct passenger hand baggage inspections at gates and boarding lounges
* Assist with queue coordination and wheelchair escort services
Qualification
* Preferred but not essential
• Fully certified and accredited to perform Aviation Screening duties as per the requirements of an Aviation Screening Officer - Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (Aviation)
• Hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
Note: Certis will cover the cost of your training, including a Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (AVI20118) and 40 hours On-the-Job Training. The Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (TSP) is a nationally recognized qualification and is a requirement for all Aviation Screening Officers and is completely FREE with our Registered Training Organization (RTO
Note that to progress into a permanent position you are required to successfully complete the Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (TSP) and, at the end of your On-the-Job Training, be deemed capable of making independent screening decisions.

Mandatory
• Valid Driver's License-Full or Provisional
• Own reliable transportation
- Current 1A Security License, NSW
- Valid and current First Aid Certificate
- Fully certified and accredited to perform Aviation Screening duties as per the requirements of an Aviation Screening Officer
- Hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
