**Principal Technical Advisor**

- Remunerations starting from $134,445 to $148,168 plus superannuation, depending on skills and experience.

**The Opportunity**
We have an exciting opportunity available for a risk assessment specialist to join the NSW EPA. This role provides expert technical and applied science advice about the risks associated with chemical use, the risk of contaminants associated with legacy contamination and in recovered wastes to deliver a safe circular economy and to protect people and the environment. The role holder has primary responsibility for maintaining knowledge and developing and reviewing projects in relation to chemical, physical and microbial contaminants and their risk to human health and the environment. The role also has a technical policy component and represents the EPA on relevant working groups and interagency committees.

**About You**
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to demonstrate:

- Extensive knowledge and experience in human health and ecological risk assessment for risks associated with various chemicals (including industrial, pharmaceutical and agricultural chemicals in complex scenarios)
- Demonstrated experience working with emerging environmental issues such as microplastics, anti-microbial resistance etc.
- Proven research and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to review scientific literature and technical documentation and to use sound scientific and engineering principles to solve complex problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate complex information to a range of audiences.
- Working knowledge of the NSW resource recovery framework and circular economy principles to ensure contaminants in recovered waste do not cause harm to the environment or human health.
- Demonstrated experience in project management.

**About the Team**
The Technical - Chemicals, Land, and Radiation Branch is a dedicated team of technical experts who work to protect the environment and people from harm by providing evidence-based advice on the regulation of chemicals, contaminated land, radiation, waste, and resource recovery. This role will work across a range of different teams where expert risk assessment support and advice is required.

If you are successful in the recruitment, you will be working in a supportive, diverse, results-driven environment, working on a range of challenging resource recovery, contaminated land, and chemicals (including pesticides) issues across NSW.
