JS Careers have been engaged by a leading non-bank lender to appoint an Operational Risk Manager. Reporting to the Director of Risk, the role is responsible for leading operational risk management activities within the retail lending division. This role focuses on identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating operational risks associated with lending products, processes, and systems. The incumbent will work closely with business, compliance, and audit teams to ensure that operational risk exposures are effectively managed in line with regulatory requirements, including APRA guidelines, and internal risk appetite frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operational risk management for retail lending portfolios, including home loans, personal loans, and credit cards.
* Identify, assess, and monitor operational risks across lending processes, including origination, servicing, collections, and product administration.
* Develop and maintain risk frameworks, policies, and procedures in line with APRA Prudential Standards (e.g., CPS 220) and internal risk appetite.
* Partner with business units to implement risk mitigation strategies, control enhancements, and process improvements.
* Conduct risk assessments, scenario analyses, and operational risk reviews to proactively identify emerging risks.
* Manage the reporting of operational risk metrics, key risk indicators (KRIs), and risk incidents to senior management and the Risk Committee.
* Lead investigations of operational risk events, losses, and near misses, ensuring timely root cause analysis and remediation.
* Support regulatory interactions and audits related to operational risk management within retail lending.
* Provide guidance, training, and risk awareness programs to business stakeholders to strengthen risk culture.
Key Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field; relevant postgraduate qualifications preferred.
* 3-5 yrs experience in operational risk management, or assurance ideally with exposure to retail lending.
* Strong understanding of APRA Prudential Standards, regulatory requirements, and risk frameworks applicable to retail lending.
* Proven experience in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation, including incident investigations and reporting.
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
* Experience in managing projects in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
