About the role
Join our team in Cairns and play a hands‐on role in keeping Queensland's Travel & Tourism Rollingstock fleet safe, reliable and ready for service. In this role you'll carry out preventive maintenance, repairs and fault‐finding across a variety of rollingstock, including supporting the world‐renowned Kuranda Scenic Railway – a service that delivers one of Australia's most iconic rail journeys. This is a great opportunity to combine your mechanical or carpentry trade skills with a role that helps showcase Far North Queensland to visitors from around the globe, all while working in a supportive team environment.
Responsibilities
* Carry out preventive maintenance, repairs and fault‐finding on Traveltrain rollingstock, predominantly Kuranda Scenic Railway trains.
* Support carriage overhaul and refurbishment programmes.
* Respond to in‐service defects, derailments and incidents to minimise customer impact.
* Maintain safety standards and contribute to a clean, safe depot environment.
* Accurately record maintenance data in enterprise systems.
Qualifications
* Skilled in preventive and unscheduled maintenance, fault‐finding and repair on rollingstock.
* Able to work both independently and as part of a depot team.
* Knowledgeable in derailment and accident recovery, safety, environmental and quality practices.
* Must hold a current National Drivers Licence (Class C).
* Must hold a Mechanical Engineering Trade Certificate.
Hours and Salary
Fixed‐term (until 5th of October with possibility for extension) full‐time position based at our Portsmith Depot in Cairns.
Potential to earn over $115,000 annually plus superannuation.
8‐day fortnight roster.
Ongoing training will be provided.
All PPE & uniform supplied.
