Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GB CMA) is seeking a passionate and practical
Safety and Wellbeing Officer
to support our workforce to thrive in a safe, healthy and positive workplace.
Reporting to the
People, Safety and Wellbeing Manager
, this hands‑on role is ideal for someone who enjoys being out in the field as much as they do improving systems, coaching staff, and building a strong safety culture.
About the role
As a key member of the People, Safety and Wellbeing team, you will:
* Provide practical, solution‑focused advice on all workplace health and safety matters
* Support leaders and employees to meet legislative requirements and embed safe work practices
* Deliver engaging safety inductions, toolbox talks and training sessions
* Undertake site inspections, audits and incident investigations, working with teams to implement effective controls
* Administer and maintain the organisation's WHS management system (Safety Culture)
* Support OHS Committee operations, including agendas, minutes and action tracking
* Contribute to continuous improvement of WHS frameworks, policies and procedures
This role offers a
mix of office‑based and field work
, engaging closely with operational and field staff across the organisation.
You can choose your office base from Shepparton, Yea or Benalla with genuine flexible work arrangements available.
About you
You are someone who:
* Is genuinely passionate about safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement
* Enjoys engaging with people at all levels and building trust
* Is confident working independently while also contributing as part of a collaborative team
* Brings a practical, "roll up your sleeves" approach to safety
* Communicates clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing
* Investigates from a place of curiosity and asks questions
What you'll bring
Essential:
* Diploma in Work Health & Safety, or Cert IV with extensive WHS experience
* Sound knowledge of WHS legislation, systems and reporting requirements
* Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
* Confidence working across both field‑based and office environments
* Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and WHS systems
* Current driver's licence
Desirable:
* Experience in a similar WHS role
* Local Government or Victorian Public Sector experience
* A proactive approach to staying up to date with WHS legislation and frameworks
