Lecturer/Professional Fellow – Civil/Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Management

Join Curtin University's School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CME) as an industry‑experienced educator. This teaching‑focused role offers an exciting opportunity to teach and mentor aspiring engineers and contribute to a practice‑informed curriculum.

Location: Bentley Campus, Perth, WA

FTE: 0.4 – 0.8 (0.4 – 0.8 FTE / 2–4 days per week), two part‑time permanent positions available.

Salary: $118,308 – $140,147 (ALB) pro rata, plus 17% superannuation.

About the Role

The School of CME seeks experienced engineering professionals with a passion for education to join our teaching team. Ideal candidates have significant experience in civil, mechanical, or construction engineering (or a closely related field) and a desire to share expertise to help students bridge theory and practice.


Responsibilities

* Actively contribute to the organisation, planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching in Civil, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Management.
* Demonstrate best practice, innovative teaching methods that enhance the student experience.
* Assess and provide feedback on student work, contributing to curriculum innovation and content design.
* Actively engage with the Civil and Mechanical Engineering disciplines and promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
* Apply relevant health and safety standards, including required responsibilities of Supervisors for practical classes and research students.
* Promote the discipline within and outside the University community by engaging in service and leadership roles, as well as outreach activities.
* In all interactions with staff and students, demonstrate the University values of integrity, respect, courage, excellence and impact.


Selection Criteria


Essential

* Professional qualifications in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, and significant, demonstrable experience in the engineering industry.
* Demonstrated capability for developing and delivering teaching in technical, professional or academic domains.
* Demonstrated ability or potential to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
* High level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to fostering a collegial and supportive environment; cross‑cultural sensitivity.
* Commitment to integrity, equity, inclusivity and health and safety.


Desirable

* Chartered status with a professional engineering body.
* Experience conducting or managing industry R&D projects, and authorship/dissemination of resulting reports.
* PhD in an engineering‑related field.


Role Requirements

* Permanent work rights in Australia.
* Successful applicants will undergo a National Police Clearance, background, integrity and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.
* These are part‑time roles and we are open to negotiation between 0.4 – 0.8 FTE.

The School of CME delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses and high‑quality research in civil and mechanical engineering. Curtin is internationally recognised for its research and offers Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The School boasts laboratory facilities worth over $5 million and maintains a high student retention rate.
