About The Role
ActewAGL Retail is implementing its Distributed Energy Resources (DER) programs and is looking for a highly motivated and analytical DER Product Engineer to play a pivotal role in delivering innovative, customer focused energy solutions.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product delivery, data, and operations, supporting the rollout and scaling of initiatives such as Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), electric vehicle charging, electrification, and energy efficiency programs.
We are seeking a technically capable engineer who enjoys working across functions and translating engineering insight into practical outcomes. You're comfortable navigating competing priorities, data driven decision making, and customer facing delivery in a regulated environment.
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering – DER Integration & Orchestration, you will
* lead day to day operations of ActewAGL's Virtual Power Plant, including customer onboarding, technical verification and ongoing customer management
* support the operation and maintenance of ActewAGL owned DER infrastructure
* identify and drive process improvements that increase scalability, automate manual steps, and improve onboarding and customer outcomes
* contribute to new DER opportunities, tenders and projects, managing scope, risks, costs and timelines
* work closely with internal and external stakeholders to design, test and scale new customer offerings beyond traditional energy products
* analyse customer and performance data to assess outcomes and support ongoing product optimisation
* provide engineering assessments across product development and live environments
* act as a subject matter expert across DER operations, integration, orchestration and energy management
* ensure compliance, reporting and contractual obligations are met, with a strong focus on safety and quality
What We're Looking For
* A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems or a related discipline
* Proven experience in project delivery within technical or operational environments
* Strong analytical skills, including experience working with data, reporting and databases in a commercial setting
* Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365
* A customer focused mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to expectations
It's Advantageous If You Also Have
* Experience in the energy or utilities sector
* Exposure to DER technologies such as residential solar, batteries or EV charging
* Experience working with asset orchestration platforms or API based integrations
* An understanding of the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM)
