Who We Are


Yilabara is an Aboriginal owned employment and training company focused on driving economic independence for Aboriginal people and their communities. We deliver a range of government funded employment programs and provide training and consulting services for organisations working to improve Indigenous employment outcomes.

The Role

Yilabara is continuing to grow and we are currently recruiting for our Nowra Employment Services team. Opportunities are available for both full-time and casual Employment Advisor positions.

As an Employment Advisor, you will form part of our Illawarra South Coast Workforce Australia team. The role focuses on supporting local Aboriginal job seekers to achieve their employment and education goals, including assisting participants to enter, re-enter, or transition within the workforce or formal training pathways.

This position operates within a fast-paced, outcomes-focused environment and requires strong engagement with Aboriginal communities. The role plays a key part in delivering culturally safe, strengths-based employment services that support participants to build confidence, skills, and sustainable career pathways.

Core Responsibilities:

* Case manage an active caseload of majority Aboriginal Jobseekers working to address barriers that may restrict their goal to re-engaging into employment.
* Maintain a comprehensive record of client engagement using all necessary reporting platforms
* Actively reverse market Aboriginal jobseekers to local employers
* Work to gain a thorough understanding of the local labour market and identify where employment opportunities are available
* Encourage and motivate clients ensuring our focus remains on strengths, capacity and capabilities.
* Facilitate job clubs maximising opportunities for our Aboriginal Jobseekers
* Work closely with local stakeholders addressing Aboriginal unemployment across our communities.

Essential Criteria

* While this is not an identified position, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply. Yilabara is committed to being an employer of choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Experience in employment services OR demonstrated transferable skills gained through roles involving supporting people to achieve goals, develop skills, or improve participation in employment, education, training, community, or service environments.
* Experience engaging with Aboriginal communities and organisations, with the ability to build respectful, culturally safe and community-informed relationships
* Proven ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships across community, government, business or service delivery settings.
* Experience supporting individuals through structured, person-centred support, mentoring, coaching, advocacy or case coordination approaches.
* A proactive and positive "can do" attitude, with the ability to motivate, encourage and support others to achieve their goals.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to negotiate, build rapport and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
* Commitment to principles underpinning the values of excellence, best practice, and cultural engagement
* Working with Children Check and National Police Check

* Valid Current Drivers license [min P1]
