Are you an experienced SMP Estimator looking for the next step in your career? This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established engineering and construction contractor delivering complex Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) projects across the mining, resources, energy and industrial sectors.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, we are seeking a Senior SMP Estimator to play a key role in the preparation of competitive tenders and cost estimates for major projects. About the Role
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will be responsible for developing accurate and commercially competitive estimates for SMP projects ranging from shutdowns and maintenance works through to large-scale construction and capital projects.
You will work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams and key stakeholders to ensure estimates are technically sound, commercially viable and aligned with client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for SMP projects.
* Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation.
* Develop labour, equipment, subcontractor and material cost estimates.
* Conduct quantity take-offs for structural steel, mechanical equipment and piping systems.
* Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
* Assess project risks and opportunities and incorporate these into estimates.
* Prepare tender clarifications, exclusions and commercial submissions.
* Participate in tender reviews and bid strategy meetings.
* Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
* Support project teams during tender handover and project commencement.
About You
To be successful in this role you will possess:
* Extensive experience in estimating SMP construction projects within mining, energy, resources, oil & gas or heavy industrial sectors.
* Strong knowledge of structural steel, mechanical installation and piping scopes.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
* Experience preparing estimates for EPC, EPCM, construction or maintenance contracts.
* High-level commercial awareness and risk assessment capabilities.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with estimating software.
* Trade qualification, engineering degree or relevant industry experience highly regarded.
