Job Description

Bank First was born by making a move. Now, we're on a mission to make more moves as we transform and grow.

We are proud to provide our community of educators and health-care workers with a bank that puts them first, because they put others first. We're committed to building a unique bank—one that's different, sustainable, and centred around our Members.

Join us in breaking the mould and shaping the future of banking. We're looking for innovative and creative minds that are ready to make a real impact at a place where you can truly be yourself.

So, what's the role?

As Legal Counsel, you will support the Bank with practical, commercially focused legal advice. You will be a trusted first point of contact for legal guidance across the organisation, helping teams navigate contracts, regulatory obligations and legal risk. You will support the delivery of the Bank's corporate legal program and help ensure our products, communications and operations meet legal and regulatory requirements.

This role offers great exposure across the business, partnering with teams including procurement, marketing, risk and operations. It suits a lawyer who enjoys a highly collaborative environment and wants to grow their in‐house career while making a genuine impact.

Typical day
* Reviewing and drafting contracts, commercial agreements and member terms and conditions.
* Supporting procurement and vendor management, including supplier contracts and service agreements.
* Providing legal advice on projects, products and business initiatives.
* Reviewing marketing and promotional materials to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
* Advising on regulatory obligations, legal risk and governance considerations.
* Supporting responses to regulators, complaints or dispute matters where required.
About you

You enjoy bringing people together to solve complex problems and deliver meaningful outcomes. You are comfortable working with senior stakeholders and guiding teams through ambiguity, helping create the clarity that keeps things moving forward.

Ideally you'll have
* A tertiary law qualification and be an Australian qualified lawyer with a current unrestricted practising certificate.
* Some relevant legal experience, either in a law firm or in‐house.
* Experience drafting and reviewing commercial contracts and legal documentation.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly and practically.
* A collaborative and approachable style with the ability to build trusted relationships.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills focused on practical outcomes.
* Exposure or interest in financial services regulation, privacy or regulatory compliance is desirable.
Why join us?
* For‐purpose, a bank committed to helping its Members and their community.
* Impactful work that will genuinely make a difference to the lives of our Members!
* Work with values‐driven leaders, who actively develop talent and support you to grow your career. In an environment that you are empowered to Be Bold. Be Different. Be Sustainable. Be YOU!
* Work‐life balance and flexibility, so you can work in a way that best suits you and supports your commitments outside of work. Family friendly parental leave, and paid superannuation up to 52 weeks.
* Hybrid working from our state‐of‐the‐art offices to connect and collaborate, as well as focused time at home.
* Competitive remuneration with an additional one week 'Be You' leave, 'Be Well' wellbeing benefit, #BFF Club home loan offer and free on‐site parking!
To apply

If you are looking for purpose and an organization that lives its values every day, we encourage you to apply. Likewise, if you tick many but not all the boxes, we also encourage you to apply. Above all else at Bank First, we look for people with heart and learning agility.

We encourage applications from people of all ages, cultures, abilities, sexual orientation, and gender identities. We strive to provide a recruitment experience that's fair, inclusive, and accessible.
