We are seeking experienced pharmacists with an interest in working as part of a professional regulatory team alongside a range of skilled staff, including regulatory pharmacists, policy experts, administration officers, and visiting specialist medical practitioners.


The Team:

Pharmaceutical Services Branch (PSB) administers the Tasmanian poisons legislation across a broad range of industries and settings, for substances in Schedules 1 to 10. PSB strives to be a responsive and risk-based regulator with a focus on ongoing professional development in contemporary regulatory practice.

This dynamic professional team may use this advertising and selection process to fill future positions arising in the next 12 months.


The Role:

Carry out a range of functions relating to the regulation of manufacture, distribution and use of drugs and poisons in Tasmania.


You will need:

* Knowledge and understanding of the relevant Tasmanian legislation including Poisons Act 1971 and Therapeutic Goods Act 2001, and a knowledge of the broad national regulatory framework.
* Demonstrated ability to operate constructively and effectively in a team; excellent organising, customer service, written, oral and negotiating skills.
* Demonstrated ability to collect, analyse and present complex information along with word processing and database skills.
* Broad professional experience including a sound knowledge of pharmaceutical and regulated substances, pharmacy practice and of the operation of the broader health system.
* Demonstrated potential to develop knowledge and skills in areas relevant to the regulation and use of substances, including pharmacology, toxicology, legal processes, policy and research.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing in March 2026 until 31 December 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.


Salary:

$110,425 to $119,290 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

* Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2022
* Please note that access to salaries beyond $119,290 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

* Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum
* A market allowance of $10,000 per annum pro rata is applicable to this role

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

* Registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia
* Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia or completion of an overseas qualification eligible for skills assessment through the Australian Pharmacy Council.

* Current Driver's Licence
* Further qualifications relevant to the regulation and use of drugs and poisons would be of advantage
* At least three years' practical experience as a pharmaceutical chemist subsequent to initial registration
