Your next career opportunity As Editorial Assistant for Australian Historical Studies, you will support the Editors and Business Manager to deliver the journal’s quarterly issues. You will gain hands‑on experience managing editorial workflows, prize administration, financial and records processes, and social media outreach while collaborating with academics, publishers and the Editorial Board. Your responsibilities will include: Provide Editorial Support: Track submissions through peer review, coordinate editing and proofs, and assist editors and the publisher in processing submissions, maintaining production schedules and checking proofs. Manage Finance and Records: Record and process royalties and income, maintain accurate databases and filing systems, and liaise with University Finance as. Support Board Governance: Schedule and support online Board meetings, provide timely data, prepare agendas and take minutes. Enhance Communications and Outreach: Respond to general enquiries and promote recent and forthcoming content on social media. You may be a great fit if: You have demonstrated experience in editorial support and publishing, with strong organisational and communication skills to manage diverse tasks and build effective relationships. You will also: Have an undergraduate degree with relevant experience or equivalent professional training. Demonstrate digital literacy and have experience using online submissions systems like ScholarOne Manuscripts and CATS Possess experience and technical knowledge in t he style conventions associated with publishing and editing. Under the guidance of the journal’s board and editors be confident liaising with publishing companies to see projects through from production stage to publication Exhibit strong planning and organisation skills, managing tasks independently and meeting deadlines. Posess the demonstrated ability to present information clea rly in person and in writing. Be adept at building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders. Your new team – Historical and Philosophical Studies The School of Historical and Philosophical Studies lies within the Faculty of Arts and comprises the disciplines of History, Philosophy, History and Philosophy of Science, Classics and Archaeology, as well as the Program in Jewish Culture and Society. SHAPS offers a wide range of subjects in these disciplines and has large Honours and postgraduate student cohorts. It is home to the journal Australian Historical Studies. Established in 1940, the journal is published quarterly and is the oldest and most highly regarded academic journal focused on Australian history.
