Primary objective
Provide advice to NT Fire and Emergency Services work units to ensure communications, marketing and digital services meet the
objectives of NT Fire and Emergency Services and the government; develop and implement marketing, communication and community
engagement activities across the agency.
Context statement
This position operates in a fast-paced environment, dealing with sensitive topics, in conjunction with frequently changing deadlines and
priorities. The Media and Communications unit provides advice and support in media management, marketing, website maintenance,
stakeholder engagement, protocol and recognition matters, strategic communications and communications policy.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide advice and support to executive directors, directors and managers in devising and implementing communication strategies.
2. Develop, implement and evaluate internal and external communications projects and strategies for NTFES including branding,
marketing campaigns, advertising, publications, events, internal communications, and web content.
3. Implement the social media strategy, oversee management of social media, and collaborate with work units to plan and develop social
media content.
1. Provide the public with accurate and timely information relating to emergency preparedness and response activities.
2. Ensure the internal and external communications, marketing and public relations activities of NTFES are in line with agency and whole-
of-government policies and objectives.
6. Coordinate, manage and monitor the outsourcing of appropriate communication services for NTFES as necessary, ensuring that
procurement guidelines, budgets and deadlines are adhered to.
7. Maintain effective relationships with executive level and business units across the agency.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven organisational skills and ability to work under pressure to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
1. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and proven experience developing content for varied platforms and
audiences.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, current procedures and trends of communications, marketing, public relations, social media
and associated industries.
4. Proven successful experience in managing and delivering complex and multi-faceted communications projects, such as marketing
campaigns, events and publications.
5. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a sensitive, complex confidential, cross-cultural and political environment.
6. Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Desirable
1. A relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, marketing, or a similar discipline.
1. Accreditation in Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS)
