**Purpose**
The purpose of the Groundwater Technical Officer role is to:
- Plan and implement site-based groundwater projects, including small scale capital renewals, new monitoring
installations, bore decommissioning programs and water quality and site safety improvements
- Help CHW to meet its every-day groundwater operational activities, including remote and site-based bore
operations, contractor engagement and supervision, water sampling, bore cleaning and monitoring
instrumentation support
- Help CHW to ensure that groundwater supplies are maintained in an operable condition and comply with safety,
environmental and health-based regulations, in a responsive and collaborative manner taking strong field-based
initiative and technical leadership
The position will work closely with the Coordinator Groundwater across core functional areas of CHW's Water Supply
Services business unit, including water supply assets, water resources, water quality and water treatment. The
incumbent will also collaborate with a number of other CHW teams, including SCADA, laboratory, land assets,
network operations, capital projects and maintenance teams, plus relevant external authorities.
The position includes both field-based and office-based activities and requires someone who is physically fit for the
required tasks.
**Key Duties/Responsibilities
- Work with the Coordinator Groundwater to plan and prioritise groundwater projects and tasks
- Ensure a safe work environment at all times
- Develop and implement routine groundwater catchment and asset inspections at CHW bore sites
- Scope and deliver small-scale asset renewal and decommissioning projects
- Provide field-based support to water quality investigations and site safety improvements
- Maintain inventory of monitoring equipment installation and equipment across CHW bore sites
- Coordinate new monitoring installations
- Process and interpret field information and data, including SCADA and telemetry data, to identify issues and
inform decisions
- Conduct field-based site inspections and tests, including groundwater sampling at pumping bores, water level
monitoring, maintenance of field instrumentation, bore cleaning
- Liaise with, induct and/or supervise contractors, consultants and new employees to CHW groundwater sites
- Respond to operational issues and incidents, including raising work orders and timely attendance and support
on site as required
- Review reactive maintenance processes for CHW groundwater bores and identify and implement improvements
- Provide input to documentation and currency of groundwater asset information and operating procedures
- Work with a range of CHW systems to support investigations, planning and implementation of groundwater works
(e.g. GIS, SCADA, asset and monitoring databases, contractor management, finance)
- Collaborate with staff and stakeholders from 'catchment to tap to catchment'
- Provide support to broader Water Supply Services team functions as required
