Position Information

Tweed Heads South Public School is located by the Tweed River and surrounded by sacred mountain ranges on the far north coast of NSW.  It has a proud history of providing a vibrant, caring and successful educational environment where all children learn and develop as individuals.  Established in 1958, Tweed Heads South Public School is culturally significant for the Minjungbal people of the Bundjalung Nation. The school's location is alongside state-of-the-art sporting facilities and Tweed River High School learning hub which guarantees a smooth transition from preschool to Year 12 and easy access to a range of excellent educational opportunities.  

The current student population is 174, with 41% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and 6.6% having a language background other than English.

A unique feature of the school is that it hosts the only onsite Department of Education preschool in the region, fostering a seamless educational journey from the earliest stages of learning. In addition, the school has three established support classes that provide students with tailored assistance in a supportive and inclusive environment.


Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Demonstrated ability to lead strategic school improvement planning using student learning and wellbeing data to address the needs of a culturally diverse student population and drive measurable improvement.



2. Demonstrated ability to create and sustain a safe, inclusive and supportive P to 6 learning environment that promotes student wellbeing, engagement and belonging, including for students with disability and additional learning needs.



3. Demonstrated capacity to lead staff through improvement and change by establishing a shared purpose, developing clear expectations and creating a positive collaborative professional culture.



4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated capacity to build trust, manage complex and sensitive conversations, and strengthen confidence within a culturally diverse school community.


General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people


ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P2 for 2026.
