An exciting opportunity exists for a Trainee in Rehabilitation Medicine to join the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District!
This role will be positioned across the district including Coledale and Bulli Hospital, Wollongong Hospital, Port Kembla Hospital, David Berry Hospital and Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.
**What you'll be doing**
The Trainee in Rehabilitation Medicine will provide a consultative rehabilitation service to inpatients and outpatients within the facilities of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, in conjunction with the supervising Specialists. The Trainee will assist in the development and implementation of a goal-oriented Rehabilitation plan and the coordination of Rehabilitation treatment at facilities within the Rehabilitation Networks as well as referral to other facilities as required.
The Trainee will gain experience in general principles of Rehabilitation Medicine and perform comprehensive Rehabilitation Assessment and care of patients referred to the Department of Rehabilitation. This position supports pre-requisites for future training positions with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

Coledale Hospital specialises in rehabilitation and aged care services for the Northern Illawarra. It has a purpose-built unit for patients awaiting nursing home placement. Coledale Hospital was opened in 1917 as a result of the efforts of local miners and townspeople who wanted a hospital to service the medical needs of local miners.

Bulli Hospital works closely with the Aged Care Specialist team at Wollongong Hospital to ensure a safe and timely transfer of patients who have completed an acute episode of care and require additional assessment, Sub-Acute medical management and planning for ongoing care needs. Bulli Hospital also provides outpatient Geriatric Services via the Geriatric Outpatient Therapy unit. This service is supported by a Geriatrician, Advanced Trainee in Aged Care, specialist nursing staff and Allied Health. The outpatient unit houses a therapy area and assessment area for patient appointments.
Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital which employs over 1,000 staff and is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services. Shoalhaven Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children's Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit.
Port Kembla District Hospital is a 57 bed facility which specialises in Rehabilitation, Aged Care and Palliative Care Services. The hospital also provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
