About the branch
The Legal Services branch is a dynamic legal practice that will offer you rewarding, challenging and varied legal work in support of Australia's premier criminal intelligence agency. The Branch has a positive, supportive and collaborative culture, where asking questions is encouraged and lawyers can identify innovative solutions to address legal risk and assist in the delivery of agency priorities.
The branch provides a broad range of legal services across all ACIC functions.
Predominantly the legal practice focusses on assisting the ACIC exercise its statutory functions which includes:
* Strategic legal advice to the CEO and senior executive;
* Providing legal advice on the making of criminal intelligence assessments and administrative decisions;
* Operational legal services in support of special ACIC investigations and special ACIC operations, and specialist legal advice concerning the ACIC's coercive powers;
* Counsel Assisting support to the Examiners;
* Providing legal advice and support to operational teams including in obtaining search warrants, controlled operations, telephone intercept and surveillance device warrants;
* Statutory interpretation of the Australian Crime Commission Act 2002 and other legislation relevant to the exercise of function of the ACIC;
* Advice and litigation matters relating to Information disclosure and information protection; and
* Working with internal and external colleagues to advise on government reviews and to develop and respond to law reform initiatives;
* Providing advice about contract law, contractual disputes, contract management, non-contractual agreements (MOUs), employment and property law (leasing), FOI, privacy and intellectual property.

Eligibility
* Citizenship
– To be eligible for employment with the ACIC, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
* Security Clearance
* The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
* Pre-Employment Screening
– All candidates must satisfy an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to being offered employment at the ACIC.
