Our client, a leading engineering consultancy firm, is seeking an exceptional Principal Protection Engineer to join their team in Melbourne. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and chartered electrical engineer to take on a crucial role in the design and implementation of protection systems for high-voltage substations, solar farms, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).The RoleAs the Principal Protection Engineer, you will lead a team of skilled professionals, leveraging your extensive technical expertise to deliver innovative and robust protection solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Leading the design and engineering of protection systems for complex HV substation, solar, and BESS projects
* Conducting detailed protection studies, calculations, and coordination analyses
* Developing protection philosophies, specifications, and technical documentation
* Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including project managers, electrical designers, and construction teams
* Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
* Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in protection system design, preferably in the power utility or renewable energy sectors
* Proven expertise in HV substation design, solar farm protection, and BESS protection systems
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
* Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., ETAP, CAPE, PSCAD)
