The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated library professional to join our Libraries and Learning team as a Readers Services and Programs Librarian at the Sam Merrifield Library. Working as part of a professional and friendly team, you will deliver high quality customer service, develop engaging adult programs, and manage the adult collection to meet the learning and recreational needs of the Moonee Valley community.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver a proactive, customer-focused approach to library service across all locations.
* Supervise and support staff as the shift supervisor, ensuring the efficient daily operation of the library.
* Develop, deliver and evaluate a range of adult programs in consultation with internal and external partners.
* Manage and develop the adult collections at Sam Merrifield Library, including regular collection review and promotion.
* Coordinate reader services and engagement initiatives, including author talks and writing workshops.
* Support and model Council's commitment to child safety and inclusion in all programs and services.
* Develop and deliver a range of engaging readers services and programs that promote and encourage the use of the library collections.
* Manage, develop and promote the adult lending collections at the Sam Merrifield Library in coordination with the Team Leader and the Collections Coordinator.
* Supervise and support staff when rostered as the senior person on duty or when the Team Leader is not on site.
* Provide high-quality customer service to the Moonee Valley Community.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification eligible for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and bring demonstrated experience in delivering high quality customer service within a public library environment. You will have a sound knowledge of library collection management principles, including weeding and promotion of collections, and the ability to develop, deliver and evaluate adult programs that foster community learning and engagement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to supervise, motivate and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders. You will demonstrate proficiency in using and supporting a wide range of technologies, including digital library resources, and show a proactive, adaptable approach to service delivery in a dynamic library environment.
