Overview
Work as part of a team, providing direction for other gardeners. Greet any community members in the Garden courteously, making them feel welcome to be visiting or participating in the Garden. Encourage appropriate behaviour from Garden visitors and volunteers if necessary. Refer to the Garden duty list kept in the garden container for detailed duties and activities. Record your attendance at the Community House or in the Garden statistics book. Undertake a site induction on Garden Safety Requirements (below) and ensure all volunteers and Garden users understand the requirements. Read through the list of duties below and have no medical condition that would limit your capacity to perform these duties (over 75 years must have a General Health Assessment from doctor).
Responsibilities
* Horticultural workers undertake a range of tasks to do with the cultivation, growing, harvesting and maintenance of trees, plants and gardens. These duties may include working amongst existing garden beds and on uneven ground, and can be modified to suit individual abilities; mowing lawns and maintaining lawn edging; removing rubbish; sweeping pathways; weeding and watering plants; preparing garden sites using hand tools or available machinery; loading, unloading, lifting and carrying garden equipment and supplies; planting and transplanting seeds, bulbs, flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns; erecting barriers, fences or structures and signs; painting and sanding.
* It includes cultivation, growing, harvesting and maintenance of trees, plants and garden beds.
* Other duties may include providing advice and or opinion to the Manager on the future direction and requirements of the Garden, induction of Garden volunteers and other duties as they arise.
