Job Description
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Custodial Education Specialist to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating education participation for young people in the custody system, including identifying individual needs and interests, and supporting associated requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and facilitate structured activities and programs related to employment, education, and vocational training for young people in custody;
* Support the relationship between education providers and Youth Justice programs and industries;
* Assist in assessing young people's ability to engage in distance education pathways and determine their support and resource needs;
* Actively identify, refer, and support young people's participation in education, youth programs or employment; and
* Implement educational programs within youth justice curriculum standards and vocational pathways.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with young people in an education environment;
* Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, young people, and service providers in delivering an integrated approach to reducing re-offending;
* Computer skills and working knowledge of departmental computer systems (desired); and
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a care team to implement strategies addressing offending behavior and promoting pro-social behavior.
