Together, we're building a team of thinkers, makers, and storytellers who push the brand forward across every channel.
We're looking for a
hands-on Art Director
who thrives on both concepting and crafting. This is a role for someone who can lead with big ideas while staying deep in the tools – a designer at heart who loves creating as much as directing. You'll be part of a collaborative, fast-paced team where high-impact ideas and sharp execution go hand in hand.
The Opportunity
This role is about bold ideas and beautiful design – bringing campaigns to life through craft and collaboration. You'll help shape Afterpay's visual identity across performance, product, CRM, social, co-marketing, and more.
As an Art Director, you'll lead the visual direction while staying close to the work—jumping into design, guiding teammates, and delivering best-in-class creative that elevates the brand and drives results.
What You'll Be Doing
* Deliver high-quality art direction
and design
across digital, mobile, social, experiential, and brand marketing channels.
* Conceptualise and execute ideas that are both strategically sound and visually engaging.
* Collaborate with performance, CRM, B2B, and product teams to develop cohesive creative solutions.
* Maintain and evolve design systems, ensuring consistency across all visual outputs.
* Use insights and performance data to refine and optimise design work.
* Lead visual storytelling across multiple formats—static, motion, video, interactive.
* Own creative execution from concept through to delivery, guiding and inspiring designers while rolling up your sleeves and designing too.
What You'll Bring
* 8+ years in visual design, digital design, or art direction (in-house or agency-side).
* A portfolio that shows both
exceptional craft and conceptual thinking
.
* Mastery of design fundamentals—layout, typography, colour, and storytelling.
* Proven ability to lead and execute end-to-end work, balancing direction and hands-on design.
* Experience juggling multiple projects and collaborating cross-functionally in fast-paced environments.
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma (bonus points for animation or motion skills).
* Demonstrated success in leading campaigns and setting visual direction while still delivering top-tier design work.
Where You'll Be Working
This is a
Fixed Term Contract
running through to the
end of 2025,
with a strong likelihood of renewal for a further 12 months.
You'll be working in a hybrid setup—with a mix of remote-first flexibility and opportunity for in-office collaboration at Afterpay's Sydney HQ. While this role is based in Sydney, you'll also have access to Afterpay's Melbourne office if you're travelling or collaborating with the wider team. You'll be joining a growing creative crew that values big ideas, sharp craft, and work that makes a real impact.
