About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Manager – Global Tax Transformation & Operations to lead the Southern Hemisphere operations stream within Rio Tinto's Global Tax Transformation & Operations team. This role is accountable for the planning, resourcing and delivery of income tax compliance and reporting outcomes across Australia, New Zealand, Pacific and Asia, with quality and process oversight for Mongolia and South Africa.
Reporting to the General Manager, Global Tax Transformation & Operations, you will own the annual compliance and reporting delivery plan for the Southern Hemisphere, including direct management for APAC and quality and process oversight for Mongolia and South Africa, liaising with local teams as needed.
* Deliver critical decision support by partnering with regional tax advisors and key business leaders, monitoring legislative and regulatory developments across all jurisdictions and assessing their impact on compliance and reporting obligations, including Pillar Two / global minimum tax requirements.
* Maintain a robust governance and control environment across the region, including consistent application of tax policies, procedures and best practices, development of jurisdictional standards and guidelines for core income tax processes, and support for internal and external audit, governance reviews and risk assessments.
* Resourced and embed GTTO technology and transformation initiatives into operational delivery, lead regional change management and drive continuous improvement to simplify workflows, reduce manual effort, improve accuracy and build sustainable, repeatable practices.
* Lead, coach and develop a diverse team of around 20 tax professionals across Brisbane, Perth, Mongolia and India, setting clear expectations, building technical depth and delivery discipline, and fostering a values‐led culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous learning.
* Act as the primary relationship owner for tax operations across the Southern Hemisphere, building trusted partnerships with finance, commercial and operational leaders, external auditors and tax authorities, and collaborating closely with Regional General Managers and GTTO stream leads to deliver joined‐up outcomes for the function.
About You
* A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
* 12+ years post‐qualification experience in a professional services firm and/or multinational in‐house tax environment, with significant leadership and operational delivery responsibility, and a professional accounting designation (CA, CPA or equivalent).
* Deep knowledge of Australian corporate income tax and advanced understanding of tax effect accounting (IAS 12) and related accounting standards, with demonstrated ability to plan, resource and manage complex, multi‐jurisdictional compliance and reporting programs to deadline and quality standards.
* Proven experience leading and developing high‐performing teams, including a coaching‐led leadership style and experience supporting people through change with clear expectations, regular feedback, empowerment and deliberate stretch.
* Experience embedding process or technology change into operational teams, including change management, training and adoption support, together with a track record of identifying and delivering continuous improvements to operational processes.
* Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex tax issues into clear messages, influence across cultures and functions, and build trusted relationships with senior leaders, external auditors, advisors and tax authorities; experience in the resources, mining or energy sector, knowledge of regional tax regimes, Pillar Two / global minimum tax, tax technology platforms and complex tax reporting will be highly regarded.

Where you'll be working
You'll be part of Rio Tinto's Group Tax function, one of the largest and most complex in‐house tax teams in the Australian resources sector. The team manages Rio Tinto's global tax obligations across more than 35 countries. This role sits within Global Tax Transformation & Operations and can be based in either our Brisbane or Perth office.
