About Your Role
We are seeking a skilled professional with a proactive approach to safety and a strong passion for continuous improvement. In this role, you will play a key part in optimising plant performance while ensuring full compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
You will work closely with Operations, Process Engineers, and Automation Teams to identify and implement system and process improvements. Reporting directly to the Supervisor – Automation and Control, you will actively contribute to our commitment to Safe, Stable, and Sustainable operations.
* Design, configure, and provide ongoing support for DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, and Historian systems.
* Troubleshoot control system communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC, GPI, and HGS.
* Support plant shutdowns, commissioning activities, and implementation of capital and improvement projects.
* Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance process stability, control strategies, and overall system performance.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the refinery.
* Identify client challenges (“pain points”) and develop Industry 4.0 solution scopes to address them effectively.
* Define and document requirements for DCS expansions and related automation projects.
* Execute robust change management processes to minimise implementation risks and ensure successful deployment of new solutions.
* Ensure the long-term sustainability and maintainability of all implemented control system solutions.
Qualifications & Skills
To be successfully considered for this role, you should have:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Systems Engineering.
* Strong knowledge of control system hardware, software, and communication protocols.
* Proven experience with DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, HMI, and Historian systems.
* Effective stakeholder engagement and ability to influence at senior levels.
* Strong collaboration, project management, and problem-solving skills, including facilitation of idea generation sessions.
* Experience in an alumina refinery or similar heavy industry is highly regarded.
* CPEng, RPEQ, or FSEng certification (or working towards).
* Familiarity with CISCO network components and industrial networking.
* Functional Safety experience (IEC 61508 / 61511 / 62061).
* Experience with ABB Infi90, 800xA, HIMA SIS, or Allen Bradley systems.
* Understanding of automation cybersecurity (IEC 62443).
* Knowledge of ISA-95 and IT/OT integration.
* Proficient in Windows system administration for control environments.
