Join an Organisation dedicated to Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health
About Us?
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
Established in 2025, Staying Deadly|headspace Deception Bay is a place for young Mob to feel safe and to belong. We provide a space where young people can gather, yarn, learn, laugh, heal and play. The service supports Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander young people aged 12-25 years, and their friends and family, with a focus on four key areas – mental health and well-being, physical and sexual health, work and study, and alcohol and drugs.
The Model of Care delivered at Staying Deadly|headspace Deception Bay is culturally grounded, holistic, and emphasises the inteceonnectedness of heart, mind, spirit and body. We aim to:
* Improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, and suicide prevention outcomes.
* Improve timely access to culturally appropriate mental health care.
* Improve skills and capacity within the IUIH System of Care and mainstream health services to respond appropriately to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's mental health and wellbeing needs; and
* Provide a culturally appropriate mental health service with a strong lived experience voice, guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander conceptions of social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, and healing.
