About the role
The Solicitor reports to the Assistant Director, Legal Services and is ultimately accountable to the Chief Legal Officer, Legal Services. As a member of the in-house legal team, the Solicitor is responsible for providing assistance and support in the efficient and effective delivery of services across the Department for Education by providing high quality, responsive strategic, legal and policy advice to relevant staff across the department, as well as contributing to the maintenance of efficient work practices within the Legal Services team.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality written and verbal legal, policy, and legislative advice to staff across schools, preschools, and the corporate office.
* Identify, research, and evaluate policies and procedures to ensure departmental compliance with legal requirements.
* Prepare clear, professional written communications, including briefings and referrals.
* Proactively assist with emerging legal issues and risk management, supporting senior executives.
* Maintain confidential and secure records management of legal documents.
* Contribute to a safe and inclusive work environment.
What We Are Looking For
* Admitted as a Practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia (or eligible for admission), with a law degree; ideally with at least 3 years' post-admission legal experience.
* Excellent analytical and research skills, with proven ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy.
* Strong communication, advocacy, and negotiation skills, with attention to detail.
* Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
* Commitment to creating an inclusive, safe, and collaborative workplace.

Remuneration
LE2 $81,667 - $92,627 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (12%)
